What Is Retrofit?
Retrofit is the process of improving a property’s energy efficiency. This can include improvements to:
Insulation
Windows and doors
Heating systems
To understand how energy‑efficient your home currently is, we carry out a Retrofit Assessment.
Your home will receive a rating from G (least efficient) to A (most efficient). Government targets currently require rental properties to achieve a minimum EPC rating of C by 2030.
The Assessment Process
If we are working with your Local Authority or Housing Provider, we will contact you to arrange a convenient time to assess your home.

Who Will Visit My Home?
A qualified Retrofit Assessor will carry out the assessment. They will always carry official photo ID, please check this before allowing entry.
All of our assessors are hand-selected and vetted by us, we like to be fussy about the people who we let into your home. Our assessors are all professional and will treat your home with the utmost care and respect.
We will confirm the name of the assessor when the appointment is made.
Where Will The Assessor Need Access To?
To complete the assessment, the assessor will need:
Access to every room in your home
Access to external walls
Access to your loft space - only if you have one
This helps us fully understand how your property performs.
If someone in your household is unable to have the assessor enter their room, we can work with you to find an alternative plan.
Do you need support?
If you have any additional needs or require support during the assessment (for example: PPE requirements or extra time), please contact our Bookings Team, who will be happy to help.
What Happens After The Assessment?
The completed assessment is sent to your Local Authority or Housing Provider. They will decide:
Whether your property is eligible for improvements
Which improvements will benefit your home most
You will then be contacted by them or their appointed contractor.
Common Questions
Will my energy bills go down?
Many households see lower energy bills after improvements. DESNZ estimates average potential savings of up to £1,271 per year, though actual savings vary by home and energy use.
Can I have a copy of my assessment?
Green Gnomes is not the Data Controller, so we cannot provide copies. Please contact your Local Authority or Housing Provider to request this.
